A very simple question for all of us, how much do we really know about our beloved planet Earth? Our planet is way bigger than we actually know. Did you know only 5% of the world’s oceans have been explored to date and there’s still 12% of the land on this planet that has not been seen by human eyes? You can imagine what all discoveries are still left to be found. However, what has been discovered so far will make your jaws drop. Every day, archaeologists around the world are making discoveries that are stunning and bizarre at the same time.
Here are some 40 amazing archeological discoveries that seem to be from some fictional world but trust us they are from this planet. For example, the infamous Nazca Lines in Peru. We have no idea, how could humans from that time created such large works of art on the earth’s surface that too, without seeing what it would look like from the sky. We can’t say if it is the work of human or some aliens. It is up to you to decide.
Emperor Qin Shi Huang founded the Qin dynasty and ruled unified China from 259 B.C. to 210 B.C. and is known for his large elaborate tomb which was accidentally found in 1974. This tomb is said to be so vast that it runs for miles. This tomb is actually a palace built underground that is surrounded by the look-alike kingdom for the emperor’s afterlife. Though the tomb hasn’t been breached yet otherwise they would have found the network of state-of-the-art drainage system.
The area contains high wall and other structures surrounding it and because of the depth and high mercury levels have delayed the excavation of this place. The Chinese government also doesn’t want to explore this beautiful piece of history because they are afraid that exposing it to air could destroy its preservation. We hope they do find a way to excavate it.
The archaeologists discovered these peculiar giant stone spheres on the Diquis Delta in southern Costa Rica. This amazing discovery continues to amaze the modern science to this day. Dating back to 600 A.D, they are locally known as Las Bolas and are said to be the monuments from a pre-Colombian civilization. So, what was their purpose? Some experts believe they were used for astronomical purposes. While others believe they were signs that pointed the way for the people for reaching other locations (maybe reading maps then was difficult). For whatsoever reason they were built and used, we may never find the real truth behind it because the Chibchan people (the creators) who used to live in the area vanished from the surface of the earth after the Spanish conquest (at least they could have asked them).
We all see movies and there we come across dialogues like, ” this is the most difficult lock that is somewhat impossible to break (eventually the lead of the movie cracks it very easily).” But what we have here is the wreckage of a Greek cargo ship, that is dated to be over 2,000 years old. Whoever designed this must have been a genius, just look at this piece of marvel. Experts say it has an intricate network of interlocking gears that has amazed every modern archaeologist and suggests that it was used as an astrological calendar (yes, not a lock but a calendar). It is one of the most phenomenal pieces of machinery found from that period in the last 1,000 years.
Movies like The Silent Witness (1978), Shroud of Turin (2008), Shroud (2010) and A Grave Injustice 2015, they all have managed to describe the history about Shroud of Turin but nothing concrete had been said yet. It is one of the most debated archaeological discoveries in the history, which is believed to be the burial shroud of Jesus Christ. This long piece of cloth contains stains of blood and a darkened imprint of a man’s body. It was back in 1353 A.D., the Catholic Church first mentioned the existence of the shroud, but it was in the 1980s the researchers got the chance to study the shroud physically. Using the modern technology of radiocarbon dating it was found that parts of the shroud were newer than others which could have been because of the medieval forgery. We can’t say for sure.
No conversation is complete if they don’t include the Great Pyramids in it. The archaeologists sit and they wait for their turn to talk about this incredible monument. If you ever want to win any conversation where people say, dude science has all the answer, all you have to do is just slide in, and whisper in their ears, what about the Great Pyramids? Total silence.

It is hard to imagine how humans were able to move and stack the large stones to built this. So some of our very dear conspiracy theorists friends suggest that the aliens helped the humans in giving it a structure that we see today. We believe you, my friend. We are still going with the theory of alien landings because that makes more sense to us. We just don’t understand, how the people of Nazcan community made these huge designs without knowing what it would look like from the above. So, we think the aliens had their ship that stayed above the ground to see if the other aliens are drawing them right.
Cleopatra VII, the beautiful and stunning was the last of the Ptolemies rulers of Egypt. She ruled between 305 and 30 B.C. She is known for her love affairs with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. Her burial location is still a mystery for many historians. They say that she was buried with Antony in a beautiful monument near a temple of the Goddess Isis. Unfortunately, it has been never found. Many suggest the tomb is no longer virgin or have been looted by grave robbers. We hope they find it. We don’t want Cleopatra VII to remain a part of the fictional world that is used in the books and movies.
The lost city of Atlantis has some great theories attached to its name. Many experts say this city lived at the coast of Greece and some say it was in Japan. No one knows for sure but this lost city of Atlantis is still the prize among the archaeological community. Historians say this city was sunk off the coast of Greece but nothing concrete has been discovered to date. But fortunately, some artifacts have been found that explains that yes, Atlantis was there in past. Maybe one day this mystery will get solved.
This remote area in China is said to be inhospitable to human life, but somehow there exist three mysterious triangular openings at the top of a mountain that contains ancient iron pipes that are said to from Chinese dynasties. The pipes run deep down the mountain that has its opening in a saltwater lake nearby. You must be thinking, what’s so strange about these iron pipes? According to archaeological experts, the pipes are clear of debris and were meant for some kind of purpose (obviously), however, even to today, the archaeologists don’t know the reason behind it. Some theories involve using these pipes for ancient astronomy lab. Could be or could be not. We can’t say for sure.

We all are familiar with the story of the boat Noah’s Ark, that survived a flood that lasted 40 days and 40 nights with every animal pairing on the planet. Yes, the archaeologists claim that they have found the Noah’s Ark and to support their claim they have provided the most believable location Mount Ararat in Turkey where the remains of the boat can be found. Even according to the Book of Genesis, this is its final resting place. However, there are many who refute the claim saying the Ark never existed and it’s all just a myth. Let us take you back to the history like over 3,000 years back. We had this civilization called Sanxingdui, which completely collapsed and disappeared from the face of the Earth. Now, you must be thinking if the place has already vanished then how it is on the list. On further research, they found that these ornaments and stone artifacts have a link to this mysterious civilization.

In Scotland, a team of archaeologists found the buried bodies of a man and a woman. They both were preserved and mummified for 300 to 600 years before they were finally buried (why is that?) Later, researchers found something was wrong with the bodies and with the help of DNA tests they found that these were not the bodies of two people, but the bodies of six separate people fused together like Frankenstein’s monster. They also found out that the body parts of the woman had been put together with the parts from the people who had died around the same time this woman died. But shockingly, the parts that completed the male body were from people who died hundreds of years before him. Genius or creepy? You decide.
The Gobekli Tepe is the world’s oldest place to worship, found in the rural area of Turkey that dates back to the 10th millennium B.C. It was discovered in 1994 and according to archaeologists, the people who built this monument were nomadic hunters. This temple contains rings of huge stone pillars that has some beautiful carvings of animals and deities they worshipped back then. The pillars have a height of 15m (49 ft) and are about 300 m (980 ft) in diameter. You can imagine the vast area this monument covers, but the side-by-side existence of multiple pillars shrines make the location unique.
Archaeology experts have no concrete explanation that could tell the purposes behind the pillars, and the pictograms are really hard to intercept. There is a theory that these images of lions, wild boars, birds, and insects were used for magical purposes to keep the evil away or they could have been used as totems.
